About the town Sandanski:
The town of Sandanski is situated in southwestern Bulgaria at the bottom of the Pirin Mountains, 165 km. away from Sofia, and 22 km. of Kulata, the cross-border checkpoint with Greece. The town is named after the Bulgarian revolutionary Yane Sandanski-a member of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization in the Seres revolutionary district. Sandanski is internationally known climate, therapy, and health resort. It is situated in the valley of the Sandanska Bistritsa River, at the foot of the southwestern slopes of Pirin Mountains. Without exaggeration the climate of Sandanski can be described as unique. Throughout the year, air temperatures are higher than anywhere else in the country. The average annual temperature (14.7oC) is the highest in Bulgaria. The winter is mild and short, and the autumn-long and warm. The relative air humidity is low (66 %), and the annual duration of sunshine is 2,436 hours. Sandanski has no foggy days and the air is remarkably clean and pollution free.The hot mineral springs are the towns natural treasure. Alongside of the Struma River valley there are 80 hot springs with temperature 42-81 oC with low mineralization and rich chemical contents, grouped in 13 sites. The town of Sandanski is proud with its unique park, called in 1981 Sveti Vrach. On the territory of 344 000 sq.m., more than 200 Mediterranean plants and trees are flourishing, some of which are natural landmarks of more than 550 years of age. As such, the park gives an excellent opportunity for rest and recreation.
